This is an international exhibition for inventors from all over the world that takes place in Geneva, Switzerland. Here, you can share your invention with the international community, find like-minded people, and compete for valuable prizes.

Industrial and commercial companies, universities, inventors and researchers, associations, and private and governmental institutions are all participating in the event to present their ideas.
So, if you are into modeling robots which go shopping alone, developing headphones which allow you to listen to music underwater, or working on some other fantastic projects, share your ideas on GIEI!

Since 1972, the exhibition has been taking place in Geneva, Switzerland annually. The event brings together a huge community of innovators, inventors, researchers, representatives of private and public institutions, scientific centers, and research bureaus from all over the world. In 2019, the exhibition was attended by more than 30, 000 visitors from five continents.

The international exhibition GIEI is supported by the Swiss Federal Council, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA).

The international exhibition GIEI welcomes students in grades 9-11, who have their own invention and good command of English. You will compete for prizes with peers and adult inventors, so it will be quite challenging.

You can submit your project for GIEI in one of the following categories:

• Mechanics, engines, machinery, tools, industrial processes, and metallurgy – develop some details for space engines or equipment for milk factories and bakeries.

• Watchmaking, jewelry, equipment, and tools – surprise everyone with a sport smartwatch design or build a robotic lense that will make the jeweler’s work easier.

• Computer sciences, software, electronics, electricity, and methods of communication – create software to forecast the dynamics of global warming or develop a GPS tracker for pets.

• Construction, architecture, civil engineering, materials science, and wood crafting – use 3D printers to build skyscrapers or create high-power lasers for wood carving.

• Sewerage, ventilation, and heating – suggest how to insulate old buildings cheaply and in an environmentally friendly way or how to reduce the cost of heating large spaces.

• Security, rescue, and alarm systems – model the cameras which will help rescuers find people under snow drifts or come up with some innovative fire alarms.

• Iron products and do-it-yourself items – experiment with metal for construction or create some art objects for your city.

• Furniture and interior – propose some alternatives to IKEA furniture or create an application for space planning which will help transform a one-room flat into a smartflat.

• Household and restaurant equipment – build a food processor which can be managed with a smartphone or program a smart vacuum cleaner that will follow a specified route so as not to get stuck under your sofa.

• Industrial and office equipment – design a cash register which will automatically count cash or equip old factories with robots.

• Agriculture and horticulture – design a prototype of a greenhouse, where one can grow basil or tomatoes or suggest a way to keep track of soil readiness for sowing using special sensors.

• Clothing, textiles, appliances, and accessories – suggest how to make shirts of recycled banana peels or create new fabrics which will cool the body in case of the abnormal heat.

• Medicine, surgery, orthopedics, and materials for people with disabilities – search for methods to diagnose cancer in early stages or create an arm prosthesis that adapts to the parameters of the human body.

• Optics, photography, cinema, and glasses – model the glasses with lenses that adjust the focal length or build a powerful telescope that could help see the most distant galaxies.

• Training materials and approaches, musical instruments, and art materials – create a ukulele using improvised materials or invent a formula of paint that will consist of organic waste.

• Transport, motorcycles, ships, aircraft, and accessories – build an ultralight city electric bicycle or create smart glasses for pilots which will collect all the necessary details about the flight.

• Food, beverages, cosmetics, medical care, health, and hygiene – discover an innovative formula of "dry shower", which will help climbers during long expeditions, or suggest some new lactose-free yogurts.

• Sports and recreation – come up with sports devices based on artificial intelligence (AI) that will analyze the physical and emotional background of the user and therefore will suggest an individual training plan.

• Practical novelties – complement a usual Swiss knife with a brush to clean technical devices and a USB flash drive or create a coffee thermos cup, which changes color when the drink is cooled.

• Advertising, printing, and packaging – create an advertising campaign using a hologram or come up with everlasting paper bags.

• Games and toys – invent a robot cat that will help kids improve their speech or a board game that will get to the world's top.

• Environmental protection and energy – create computer algorithms for fire prevention in forests or invent portable solar panels which could be put on car roofs and city buses.

By the way, if you submit your project to a wrong category, the jury will redirect it to the right one.

The selection process begins in December.

To participate, you have to receive a recommendation from the expert commission as a special prize at the stage III of the All-Ukrainian contest-presentation of scientific research projects among JAS students or at the exhibition-contest “The Future of Ukraine". Then you will be automatically included in the list of finalists – yes, without filling in any additional forms.

The JAS International Department team will help you at the next stages. We will help you submit your application to the exhibition and adapt your project to the requirements of the exhibition.

In the application form, you have to:

• explain the purpose of your invention;
• describe your invention in three lines;
• formulate a hypothesis, which you will use later to get a patent.

You will also need to prepare a three-minute video where you talk about your project in English.

Keep in mind that the organizers can publish information about your invention in the official catalog of the exhibition. To allow that, you will be asked to fill in a special form.

The international exhibition is organized in a presentation format. Each participant has a personal stand with a logo and a prototype, where he or she presents the project. The presentation is reviewed by the international jury that consists of 82 specialists in different fields. They will evaluate the projects, ask questions about the invention, and finally give their feedback and a verdict.

There is a great chance to win the prize!

Participants from Ukraine participated in GIEI for the first time in 2021 and got two medals: silver and gold. Don’t hesitate to participate next year and tell the whole world about your invention.

Participants compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals, as well as for Grand Prix and special prizes.
