It’s an All-Ukrainian contest for true chemistry fans! It was named after Yevhen Hladyshevskyi, a doctor in chemical sciences and crystal chemistry scientist. The contest is held annually in partnership with Lviv JAS regional department and Ivan Franko National University of Lviv to make chemistry even more interesting for you.

Those who are fond of chemistry and natural sciences!

You can take part in the contest if you are:

• 6–12 years old;
• 13–18 years old.
  Each age category has its own contest conditions. We’ll tell you more about it!

For those who are 6–12 years old, the contest consists of one stage only.
First of all, you fill in your application form on the JAS website. Then you get a name of a substance and instructions on how to grow crystals under the supervision of adults. Just imagine, you can organize a real micro laboratory at your home! You will have two months to complete your experiment and then the jury will assess your crystal.

It should be packed, signed and sent to us through your local JAS representative. If you don’t have such an opportunity, you can record a short video (3 mins long) about your crystal, demonstrate it to the jury from different angles and tell us how you were growing it! We will examine all the projects and pick a winner!

If you are 13–18 years old, we have a cool challenge for you as well: to grow a crystal and to describe this experience in a scientific paper!

The contest consists of two stages. The first one is selective and therefore online. To take part in it you have to fill in an application form and submit your research paper. You can find the requirements on our website :)

The second stage is an All-Ukrainian one! Those selected by the jury come to Lviv and compete in different nominations. This stage takes place in the form of presentation of scientific projects – you present your research results to the jury and other participants. Isn’t it a cool chance to boost your public speaking skills? And then your wait for the results!

There are four nominations: “The highest quality crystal”, “The biggest crystal”, “The most original crystal” and “Virtual crystal”. Each category has two winners!

So, if you’re already thinking about organizing a micro laboratory at home, don’t waste time and fill in the application form!

When and how can I submit an application?
If you’re 6–12 years old, fill in an online application form on the JAS website by February 1st and wait for an answer from the jury.

If you’re 13-18 years old, submit your application form and research papers in Ukrainian or English (it’s up to you) by March 20 to [email protected].
