This Olympiad helps to share an idea that will save the world from a global environmental disaster! For more than 11 years, the Olympiad has been helping outstanding projects to be seen by the world scientific community.

This Olympiad is for you if you dream to tell the world about a new method of recycling garbage or to launch a startup that will save the planet from plastic, or to write an essay on global warming or to make a film about the rare birds in your region. Create your own eco-project and prepare to defend it in the USA among the experts in the fields of STEAM and business and among inspired like-minded people from 80 countries.

The competition was founded by the non-profit organisation “Terra Science and Education” in 2011, and Rochester Institute of Technology became a permanent partner of the event in 2020. And in 2021 JAS became the official and the only representative and organiser of GENIUS Olympiad in Ukraine.

The main condition is that the projects deal with global environmental problems!
You can submit to different sections: Science, Robotics, Business, Creative writing, Art, Music or Short film. Moreover, each section has subcategories! For example, in the Creative writing section you can write poetry, essays or short story. Simply put, look for a niche where you will better manifest your abilities. But pay attention: no matter what section you chose, the project should concern with the ecology.

This is a way to break into a scientific and ecological party. Every year since 2017, more than 1,000 participants from more than 70 countries have participated in the Olympiad!
You will show your idea to international community, get prizes, awards and make cool acquaintances. Most importantly you will get a feedback from scientists from around the world. And if you prepare a project in the Science section and impress the jury, it will be published free of charge in the “International Journal of High School Research”.

Science

Are you troubled by a million of thoughts about how to solve an environmental problem, like the thoughtless use of plastic straws in a cafe? Let’s prepare a scientific work of up to 15 pages about this and submit it to this section!

Robotics

If Lego has been your passion since childhood, you make robots in your free time and love blockbusters about transformers, than quickly make your innovative robot that can plant trees and submit it to this section!

Business

The section for those who are in friendly terms with numbers, for whom the idea is the engine of progress, entrepreneurial vein is the basis of the basics, and “eco-friendly” means not just a word on the package from the supermarket.

Creative writing

If you can write stories, fanfics, posts that are constantly liked and shared, if you touch on topics important to society, than create a new text and submit it to this section!

Art

Visuals, colours, brushes, posters, staging, photos. Does all these words make you smile, leave everything aside and go generate an idea for the upcoming artistic work? In that case, do not delay. Go, create and send work to the Olympiad!

Music

Write insightful lyrics, put them on music and share your masterpiece with everyone or make a cover about which people say “it’s better than the original :)”.

Short film

This section is for you, if you know how to tell a story in shots, introduce a problem and spin a plot in 2-6 minutes. Let Hollywood inspire you and Bollywood cheer you up.

To get to GENIUS Olympiad, you need to pass the national selection – All-Ukrainian competition GENIUS Olympiad Ukraine. This is the only way to the final in the USA. So if you know how to overcome eco-problem and want to share this idea with the world, register and participate in the GENIUS Olympiad Ukraine.
To become a participant, you need to be 13-17 years old and study in 8-11 grades of secondary education institution. You can submit projects to the All-Ukrainian competition in Ukrainian or English, and to the international final – only in English.

It is time for the educational marathon! It is a digital event in the Instagram and Telegram, where you will prepare to participate in the Olympiad. You are expected to communicate with experts of each section and managers of the Department of International Relations of the JAS, discuss the most common environmental problems in Ukraine and the world, discuss the topics of war and ecology, disclose social responsibility and academic virtue, and exchange experience with the winners of the GENIUS Olympiad of previous years. To get to the marathon, you need to fill in the Google form on the eve of the project start, placed on the official pages of the JAS on Facebook and Instagram, as well as on the website of the Olympiad.

Then comes the registration of the project for the Olympiad. At this stage you fill in the form in which you give all the information about the project, upload PDF files with finished scientific work, depending on the section you upload your poster or presentation, photo or link to YouTube videos with your presentations.

There are 3 ways to do this:
The first one is to register the project, getting an eco-pass immediately for the national finals of the Olympiad. Eco-pass is provided to projects by educational institutions, schools or teachers who have affiliation from the JAS the organizer GENIUS Olympiad Ukraine. The second way is to submit the project independently within the limits of individual registration. In this case, the project is selected by the national jury. So only those projects that have received a recommendation from the jury are included in the national final.

The third way is to get a recommendation to participate in the Olympiad as a special prize at the II stage of the All-Ukrainian competition-defense of scientific researches of students-members of the JAS, guaranteeing your participation in the national final without the stage of receiving recommendations from the jury of the Olympiad.

Then there is a stage in which the projects, which participants have registered independently, pass the jury evaluation and assignment of qualification status “Recommended”/“Not recommended”. The recommended project receives an eco-pass for the national final.
If you have received a recommendation from the jury of the Olympiad, the next step is to send a presentation video of your project. The video is used to present and defend the project at the national stage.

Next comes the participation in the national phase. Now, the projects of all eco-pass holders (i.e. those who have received a recommendation from the jury or those who have submitted an application) are evaluated, and project defense is based on the video presentation. The national final is held annually in February-March.

According to the results of the evaluation, participants receive grand prix, gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as badges of honor and special GENIUS Olympiad Ukraine prizes. Those who win the grand prix, gold and in some cases silver medals will receive GENIUS Olympiad Ukraine eco-passes. This means a desired entry to the GENIUS Olympiad Global held annually in the USA!

The final of GENIUS Olympiad is hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology. It is one of New York’s top 50 universities. The team will be accompanied by JAS staff, who will help with household and logistics issues. And your job is to defend your project at the Olympiad as better as you can.

Good statistical news: according to the results of registration 2020-2021, the JAS became the second institute in the world that submitted the most projects for the stage of international qualification – 42 projects!
And in 2022 with the result of 51 awards Ukraine took the third place for the number of received awards in GENIUS Olympiad Global among all the countries represented by the participants of the competition!
Ukrainian school students annually take part in the GENIUS Olympiad and win there awards: in previous years, our team won gold, silver and bronze medals, were the fourth in the ranking and received special prizes, which are also considered to be a high result. And in 2022 the Ukrainian team for the first time in the history of participation in the GENIUS Olympiad won the highest award – the Grand Prix!
Among our winners is Mykola Ivanchenko, who developed a super-fast method of cleaning water from the spilled oil. This technology, which will save the world from eco-problems, he has already patented!

So the way to win is before you. It is time to make the first step!
