Сuboid is the first interactive museum in Ukraine where complex mathematical phenomena can be explored through experiments, play, and interaction with exhibits. The space features interactive exhibits, educational laboratories, and halls for programs and meetings. Here, young visitors can discover how mathematical laws work in nature, technology, and everyday life.
“Mathematics is a fundamental tool of thinking, and thanks to a space like Сuboid, children can develop it through play and exploration — their leading form of activity. It is also important that a visit to the museum helps children build a connection to learning as something exciting, inspiring, and enjoyable. I am grateful to the Cuboid team for making this experience available to children from frontline and border communities,” said Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi.
During its first year, Cuboid welcomed more than 42,600 visitors, including over 3,000 teachers and 530 school groups. At the same time, the museum has become not only a place where visitors encounter mathematics through interactive experiences, but also an important professional space for educators. It regularly hosts training sessions, classes, and professional development programs that open up new opportunities for accessible and modern mathematics teaching. Over the past year, Cuboid has evolved into a space where mathematics becomes more approachable, understandable, and engaging.
In a video address, Stanislav Dovgyi, President of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, emphasized: “A year ago, in the midst of war, we opened the Cuboid Museum of Mathematics because we understood that education cannot be put on pause. Children must explore, ask questions, and discover the world today. And it is especially valuable to us that throughout this time our partners have stood by our side — people and teams who shape modern scientific culture around the world: the European Network of Science Centres and Museums (Ecsite), the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC), and colleagues from leading science museums and research institutions.”
The main event of the day was the launch of the Traveling Museum of Mathematics — an educational project through which Cuboid has expanded beyond its own walls. The mobile version of the museum is designed to make interactive science accessible to children in different regions of Ukraine, especially in frontline and border communities where the war has significantly limited educational opportunities.
The Traveling Museum has already set off on its route and will soon introduce schoolchildren to mathematics through interactive formats and experiments, turning learning into a vivid hands-on experience of discovery.
The project was implemented by the National Center “Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, with the support of UNICEF Ukraine and the international organization Theirworld.
Acting Director of the National Center “Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine,” Olena Kvachevska, emphasized the role of the people who make such initiatives possible: “Behind every project are people, and it is their dedication that turns ideas into reality. I am sincerely grateful to our partners for their trust and support, and to the team of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for their daily work, belief in the idea, and professionalism. Thanks to these people, Cuboid is now setting off on a journey across Ukraine to give children new experiences and open up the fascinating world of mathematics to them in different parts of our country.”
International partners of the museums from Belgium, Portugal, Finland, Poland, and other countries also joined the celebration with letters and video greetings. These messages became a valuable expression of support for the team of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and demonstrated our partners’ readiness to work side by side with us to develop and support Ukrainian education. In particular, Maria João Fonseca, President of Ecsite; Catherine Franche, Executive Director of Ecsite; Mikko Myllykoski, CEO, Heureka, the Finnish Science Centre (Finland); Pedro Russo, President, Ciência Viva / National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture (Portugal) and Robert Firmhofer, CEO, Copernicus Science Centre (Poland) expressed admiration for the team’s resilience and for the importance of the new project in overcoming learning loss. The video greetings are available at the link.
A special atmosphere at the event was created by an artistic performance from Stage Show, the creators of the well-known family productions Guardians of Dreams, Mavka, and Santa’s Residence.
