The proceedings of the Fifth Annual International Scientific and Practical Conference “Museum Pedagogy in Science Education” have been published. Held in December 2024, the event brought together nearly 80 participants from 20 regions of Ukraine and six countries — Portugal, the USA, Kenya, Denmark, Belgium, and Poland. The proceedings include 72 publications that serve not only as a summary of the conference but also as a guide for the future development of museum pedagogy in Ukraine.
Key topics addressed include the role of museums in overcoming educational losses, the specifics of museum education during wartime, and the integration of science, art, and education to promote cultural and historical heritage. Special attention is given to materials highlighting local practices, tools, and examples of transforming museums into contemporary hubs for STEAM education (RoadSTEAMer project), art education, and civic engagement.
International speakers contributed a global perspective to the event. For example, Robert Firmhofer, CEO of the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, presented the experience of Polish science centers. Kenneth Monjero shared insights on implementing a competence-based approach in African education, drawing on the case of Kenya. Marianne Achiam (Denmark) outlined the evolution of European science centers as institutions, while Stephanos Cherouvis (Belgium) discussed tools that enable museums to become spaces for innovation in science, art, and social development.
The texts of international participants’ presentations are provided in both Ukrainian and English. The first copies of the proceedings were presented and gifted to the authors during Ecsite conference 2025, the annual conference of the European Network of Science Centres and Museums, held in early summer in Warsaw, Poland.
The e-version of the collection is available on the website of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. We invite you to explore it and join future events dedicated to museum pedagogy.
